My Sunday Adventure

What was suppose to be a 4 1/2 - 5 hour drive home, turned out be more like an 8 hour drive.

For some reason, we were delayed at every turn.  1st of all, my husband, who usually likes to be prompt and do things early, actually suggested that I do some laundry before we left my Mom's house. I thought that was odd, since, it would delay us from getting on the road.  We finally started driving off at about 12:30 pm.

We stopped at a fast-food place, and it was NOT fast.  Another delay.

Next, Mac decided he wanted to take a more scenic route. This route was actually shorter than our regular route....but little did we know what awaited us down this road.  We were between Brackettville and Rocksprings.  It was a narrow, curvy road.

What happens?  We get stopped by a patrol car..... a BORDER PATROL.  Wow!  Flashing lights and everything.  The man said they were just doing random checks and asked us if we were US citizens.  Apparently, there is a lot of trafficking on that lonely road.
We were then on our way....or so we thought.  Not 10 minutes later, the sheriff stops Mac.  He told us we were going 6 miles over the speed limit and was nice enough to give us just a warning.

With those 2 delays behind us, we thought we were finally in the clear.......and then the car died...in the middle of nowhere, where there was no cell phone signal....and I had to pee!!

We had no idea why the car stopped running.  There we sat with the car hood open, puzzled. And then, this nice couple stops and offers help.  The lady offered to take me up the road until we got a  cell phone signal. We  left my family, and her husband with the car, and headed in search for a phone signal.  We drove for several miles before I was able to call my kids' wonderful Godfather,("Grandpa and Dad" to us), Carlos, and explain to him that we were stranded.
The lady had found a spot where she could drive off a few yards off the road, and that's where I was making my calls.

Being that I am a 41 yr. old woman, having had 3 kids....I couldn't wait any longer. Waking up that morning, I never would've thought that I would have to find a spot  off the road to ....well, u know.  There was a big bush several yards way off the road.  And, like the true Texan I am,  I checked around me for snakes before I squatted down.  Let me just say "thank you" to Jillian Michaels. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been able to squat with that much ease.  Sorry.  WAY TOO MUCH INFO.  I guess I should've had posted 'caution/viewer discretion'  before you read this.

We headed back to the broken down car, knowing that Carlos was on his way to the rescue (with our church's van to pick us all up).  The nice couple rode off, having done their good deed, and as soon as they drove off....yep, the car STARTED BACK UP!!

We drove to Sonora and met Carlos there.  He followed us back to San Angelo, and made sure we made it home.

So, how was your Sunday?

Well when someone gets stopped by the border patrol at least I can empathize with them. Wow what a day that was!
